What a mess. This will need to be cleaned up.

Even worse (disassembly has commenced)!
The first step is to start taking everything apart. It's not a difficult task, but some organization is required to keep track of which wires go where. Removing the right seat is mandatory, IMO, as is a knee pad. And the worst part is sweating it out on a hot June day in the mid south like I did... perhaps the weather will be better where you are.

There's not a lot of fun to show when taking off old wires one by one. Fortunately the actual wires on this car were in quite good condition!
New quality terminals being crimped onto the wires. I've heard of people soldering these after crimping. DO NOT do that! Doing so only makes the wire more fragile. When it comes to wire connections always remember: crimp or solder, but not both. In this case, make a proper crimp and it will be stronger. If you don't believe me, how about the NASA Technical Standard?
I replaced the relay sockets, though in hindsight, did not really need to. These are a lot sturdier than the OE Rists sockets. I decided to paint them the proper colors.
