I started to take apart the suspension, but didn't get far untli I ran into problems. I didn't have a suitable pickle fork for the lower ball joint, which was impossible to remove otherwise. Also, the two-piece spring compressors that I had were scary to use and due to the way they work (and the lack of physical space on the DeLorean), I could only use an open-ended wrench on them! Needless to say, it took several hours to deal with one corner. The solution was to purchase a much bigger clamshell-style spring compressor (which can be used with an impact wrench for quick spring compression!) and a new set of pickle forks. The next corner took no time at all.
Front right (before).
Original shocks... hard as rocks. Complete with rusty springs!
One corner completely disassembled.
Now the whole frame is on jack stands as I move to the back suspension. I've strategically organized the parts into boxes: some for parts that need to be plated, some for parts that need to be POR-15'ed, and a few others for parts that need a good cleaning... actually, that's every box.
The new spring compressor... after using this, I wouldn't use anything else. It seems leagues safer and it's definiltely a lot faster at getting the job done.
On to the rear suspension!
Same corner as above, except with the task completed.
Fuel tank out! (It's nasty... more on that later)
After removing a few more pieces (transmission linkage, more brake lines, and fuel accumulator), the frame is fully disassembled!
